Payment for the rooms will be handled at the hotel's front desk when you arrive on Friday, July 11.
Sustenance:
Breakfasts will be at the Maplewood Hotel and the cost is included in the hotel price.
Lunches: If Saturday is beautiful weather, we might get "take-out" food and hike somewhere for a picnic. If the weather is not in our favor, we might prefer going out for lunch on Saturday.
Dinners: We will decide dinner locations for Friday and Saturday nights. A few suggestions are below. Please suggest other places you can recommend. Reservations may be wise. (There is no obligation for us to all eat together...)
Activities:
Shopping
There is interesting shopping in Bethlehem and Littleton. Both towns have independent stores with fun products.
Hiking and Exploring
-
The Sugar Loafs in Twin Mountain are a great (relatively) easy hike with beautiful views of the Presidential Mountain Range.
-
The Ammonusuc River runs from the shoulder of Mount Washington, past the Mount Washington Hotel. There are beautiful trails that run along the river. There are great places for picnicking, with mostly level walking on paths with good footing.
-
Gondola ride up the ski area to see the view. There is a restaurant on the slopes with perfect views of Mt. Washington and the presidential range. (We will only the summit on an exceptionally clear day.)
-
Train ride up and down Mt. Washington. I've never done it. It could be interesting.... It is easy to drive up the Cog Road to where the train departs for the summit.
-
The Flume (Franconia) is another fantastic place to explore. Tickets are $18 online and $21 the day of your visit. This is not for anyone who has concerns about heights....
-
The Gorge is across the street from The Flume. There is no cost and it's a beautiful easy walk along a stream that has smoothed out the granite rocks.
-
There is golf, biking, driving to North Conway or on the Kancamagus "Highway", etc. Too many options to mention them all.
The Train to the summit of Mt. Washington and the discounted tickets to the Flume are the only activities that need to be arranged for in advance. I suggest we wait to see what the weather will be like ~ understanding we might not be able to get tickets if we wait too long.
Props:
Participants will need to bring: 2 blankets, 1 strap, 1 yoga mat, 1 ~9" yoga/Pilates ball, bolster, and 2 blocks. Let me know if you don't have any of these items and I'll bring them for you.
Some of us may choose to go up early on Friday and have some fun before checking in. Please let me know what time you will be heading north, and approximately what time you will be checking in.
Any Questions???

UPSHOT:
-
No need to take any action right now.
-
Participants will pay hotel costs (includes breakfast) at the hotel's front desk upon arrival.
-
You might investigate & suggest options for places to eat and activities in the area.
-
Before the end of the month we will decide on 2 places to make dinner reservations. (Friday & Saturday nights.). There is no obligation to all dine at the same place. Menu's are linked above for your review.
-
As soon as we have an idea of the weather for Saturday, those who want to get tickets for the Cog Railway or the Flume should purchase those tickets.
-
We are 11 participants. Car pooling can be decided according to space available, arrival and departure times, interest in activities, etc.
More to follow soon!!

I am considering a 2025 spring yoga retreat. The location I found is in Bethlehem, NH. It’s called the Maplewood Inn where I have hosted company weekends before. We currently have the first weekend in May booked ~ and I am looking at additional possibilities.
It is ~ 2 hour drive from New London. We need to book 10 rooms to make it viable for the inn to host us. The cost is $250/night, plus 8.5% tax ($271.35/night). At that price they can’t allow for 2 people to share a room and spilt the cost.
The room rate covers the room, the yoga space, and 2 breakfasts. For the rest of the meals, we would be on our own. (additional $$). There are great options for lunches and dinners.
The area is great for hiking, walking, biking, hanging out along the Ammonoosuc River, golfing, shopping, etc. We could stay 2 or 3 nights. 2 nights gives us 4 yoga classes; 3 nights gives us 6 yoga classes. For either of these options we would begin the retreat on Friday late afternoon.
This pricing is very similar to 2 other options (the place we’ve stayed before in VT (The Big Picture Inn), and the Rosewood Inn in Bradford.) I have spent many hours over the years looking for appropriate space. It is difficult to find:
• enough rooms
• adequate bathrooms
• and a room large enough to practice yoga.
The Big Picture Inn (where we have been on retreat twice) in VT is lovely and has a nice yoga room ~ but the yoga space is just large enough for 10 people. As you will see from the pictures below, the Maplewood Inn has a gigantic room for us to practice. And the cost is comparable.
FYI ~ I pay for my own room & food, and I do not charge for the yoga classes.
Please let me know your thoughts and ideas. Obviously, there's no pressure to attend. I know it’s a big commitment on many levels. That being said ~ we would need to commit very soon.
The pictures below will give you an idea of the space.
